Great Schools.
This is a comprehensive site. GreatSchools, Inc. is a non-profit organization
dedicated to providing the best, most comprehensive information about
public schools. Launched in September 1998, GreatSchools.net features
school profiles for all K-12 public schools in the state of California;
tools to help visitors search for and compare schools; and content designed
to help people understand and improve schools. According to the site,
GreatSchools, Inc. is dedicated to helping parents and community members
understand, support, and improve public schools; helping parents identify
and choose schools for their children; and helping educators learn from
other schools and assess and promote their own schools' quality.
California Association
Of Independent Schools. Find out about private schools for your
child by clicking onto this web site. The California Association of
Independent Schools is an association of 170 nonprofit college-preparatory
schools throughout the state. Member schools vary widely, ranging in
size from 71 to 1,550; providing campuses that are urban, suburban or
rural; student bodies that are coeducational or single sex; and offering
boarding and day facilities. The majority of schools are secular, but
many are religiously affiliated. All schools admit students without
regard to race, color, national or ethnic origin.
Noteniks.
NoteNiks are educational support comics which enable parents, educators,
librarians, dentists, doctors and others to connect with the children
in their lives.
Recording
for the Blind & Dyslexic, a nonprofit volunteer organization, is
the nation's educational library serving people who cannot effectively
read standard print because of visual impairment, dyslexia, or other
physical disability. There is a membership fee, but once a family joins,
they have access to an enormous library of books on tape and CD ROM,
a much larger selection than is available anywhere else.
Lightspan. You and your family
can visit this web site to find resources for studying with your child.
You do need to know your district code as part of the log in, kind of
a hassle, but once you get into the site, it's worth your while. One
great feature these guys have is the Study Buddy, where you can easily
access information from The CIA World Fact Book, measurement converters,
distance calculators, currency converters, the yellow pages and more.
Children's Literature
Web Guide gathers together and categorizes the growing number of
Internet resources related to books for children and young adults.
